Type of Braces

At Perla Orthodontics, we have a wide range of braces available both privately and on the NHS. Book an initial appointment today so we can work with you to determine the ideal braces for you.

Ceramic Fixed Braces

Ceramic (white) braces offer the strength of metal fixed appliances with a more subtle cosmetic look. They are white or tooth coloured. White wires can also be added. Very precise control of tooth movement can be achieved with ceramic braces, much the same as fixed metal braces. These are available for adults and children.

These are available as a fully private treatment, limited orthodontic treatment or on our under 18s reduced rate treatment service; Silver Service. Unfortunately ceramic fixed braces are not available on the NHS.

Metal Fixed Braces

These are the most common type of braces for children, but they are generally less appealing to adults as they are more noticeable in the mouth. They are as good as the ceramic but with a metal appearance. You can make a fashion statement with these by choosing your favourite colour at every appointment.

Metal fixed braces are available as a fully private treatment, under 18s silver service, limited orthodontic treatment, and on the NHS for eligible children and adults.

Self Ligating Braces

Self-ligating braces are fixed within the mouth, but do not need fixtures to hold the wire as they have an incorporated metal mechanism that joins the wire and the bracket. This allows the wire to move more freely. Self-ligating braces like the Damon system we use are designed to reduce friction and to allow the teeth to move easily.

Available on a private basis only.

Benefits of Self Ligating Braces

One of the main advantages of self ligating braces is that the teeth are able to move more easily during treatment. This reduces the appointment time required to change the wire and can also reduce the frequency of visits.
Self ligating braces work really well when there is a lot of teeth crowding. They are also recommended for people on a tight schedule for appointments as visits can be spaced out to every 8-10 weeks.

Lingual Fixed Appliances

Lingual Fixed Appliances are virtually invisible as they are bonded to the inside surface of your teeth. However they do require more chair time and it is very difficult to achieve the same level of precision as fixed ceramic or metal appliances. These are generally recommended for simple cases.

Not longer available as we are focusing on aligners which give us more precision when a discreet approach is required.

Removable Braces

Removable braces are made of acrylic and metal, and can be removed for cleaning and sports. This brace is designed for the correction of simple cases, or as a first phase of treatment before fixed braces in younger patients. Although they are removable, these braces still need to be kept in the mouth for the majority of your days, only removing for cleaning or contact sports.

Available on the NHS or privately.

Invisalign (Clear, Invisible Braces)

Invisalign braces are available on our private treatment plans. Invisalign uses a sequence of removable aligners to correct the position of teeth and improve your smile. They are clear, removable, comfortable and easy to clean. Both adults and teenagers can have Invisalign braces.

Invisalign is the msot discreet option to move your teeth and get a beautiful smile. People hardly notice them. The aligners are removable therefore they do not interfere with your eating, brushing or flossing.

Available privately only.

Short Term Orthodontics &
Front Teeth Alignment

Some of us don't need extensive orthodontic work but would still like a straighter smile. At Perla Orthodontics, we offer a solution that focuses specifically on adjusting the alignment of the front teeth only. This treatment is popular with people who are looking for a purely cosmetic result, and don't need extensive orthodontic work to correct bite issues. Because it is less involved than comprehensive orthodontic treatments, it is much cheaper too, starting from £800.

Front teeth alignment work is only suitable for some people, and is not a substitute for long-term orthodontic treatment that focuses more on clinical needs. However, if you are considering straightening your teeth and would like to know more about whether this treatment is for you, we are more than happy to discuss your options with you. As specialists in orthodontics, we have the training and expertise to advise you on the different treatments available, helping you make an informed decision.
